Bukchon Hanok Village
Seoul 2024
Group Title (Optional)
Bukchon is the only neighbourhood left in Seoul where traditional Korean houses called Hanok are still standing. These houses date back to the early 20th century and have been regulated by the Korean government for them to be preserved. Most of the Hanoks in the other parts of Seoul have been demolished and replaced by modern buildings.
On the way to the village, there are also some old buildings which now serve as shops and cafes.

There are about 6000 residents in this area but an overwhelming 6.4 million visitors in the year 2024. The area has seriously become a victim of overtourism. Now, tourists can only visit between 10am to 5pm daily and many signs have been put up asking visitors to be considerate and are asked to lower their voices.

The houses are well preserved and have obviously been renovated in recent times. They are pretty and provide an interesting backdrop for tourists dressed in traditional Korean dresses called hanbok. All the rage these days with the wide spread appeal of K-dramas around the world.
